The European Union has proposed a comprehensive reform of its customs framework, introducing a data-driven system that will simplify procedures for traders. The proposal by the European Commission will streamline reporting requirements for traders, including reducing the time required to complete the import process, providing a single EU interface and promoting data re-use. According to a statement by the European Commission, the reform will establish a new EU Customs Management Board to oversee the data center, which will be a single online portal where importers will be able to record all information about their products and supply chains. The center will replace the existing customs IT infrastructure of EU member states, saving up to EUR 2 billion in operating costs annually. In addition, artificial intelligence will be used to predict issues before goods are shipped to the EU.
