According to sources, the UK government is set to introduce legislation in the coming days to establish a new regulatory body tasked with overseeing the dominance of large tech platforms such as Google, Amazon and Facebook. The draft bill will give statutory status to the digital markets unit of the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) and grant it specific regulatory powers over so-called big tech firms. Known as the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumer Bill, it will tailor rules to apply to technology companies with global revenues of at least £25bn (or £1bn in the UK). The legislation is expected to be unveiled during the week starting 24 April.
