Scientists at the University of Tokyo have utilized boron vacancies in the two-dimensional layers of hexagonal boron nitride to accomplish fine tasks in the nanoscale arrangement of quantum sensors, enabling detection of extremely small variations in magnetic fields and achieving high-resolution magnetic field imaging. Boron nitride is a thin crystalline material composed of nitrogen and boron atoms. Artificially induced spin defects in the boron nitride lattice are suitable for use as sensors.
