The Chinese shipbuilding industry has experienced significant growth in the first five months of 2023. Along with an increase in the quantity of ships being built, there has been a corresponding increase in prices. The Clarksons Newbuilding Price Index reached 170.1 by the end of May, a 10.03% increase from the same period last year. Meanwhile, the cost of shipbuilding materials has decreased, with prices for 20mm and 10mm shipbuilding plates down 18.7% and 17.4% respectively. This has led to a widening gap between ship prices and steel prices, resulting in increased profits for shipbuilding companies. As a result, it is expected that the fundamentals of related listed firms will become even stronger.
