On June 14th, the Taiwan Affairs Office held a regular press conference, during which spokesperson Zhu Fenglian answered questions from reporters on recent hot topics between Taiwan and China. When asked about the completion of the first batch of agreements under the Taiwan-US Trade and Investment Framework Agreement, which was met with concerns from Taiwan's agricultural industry due to the lack of tariff reductions, Zhu strongly opposed the signing of any agreement between the US and the Taiwan region that has sovereignty implications or official nature. She also criticized the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authority for claiming that the agreement represents a milestone for Taiwan's economic and trade system to meet international high standards, which she believes is actually an unfair trade agreement that only benefits the US rather than Taiwan. According to Zhu, the negotiation of the agreement was completely driven by the US's agenda and content, with the DPP authority blindly following the US's script to gain political support from the US at the expense of Taiwanese businesses and people. Therefore, the agreement has been facing opposition and criticism from Taiwan's discerning public.
